Live music. Gourmet food. Hottest Europeans in Chicago. Whenever there is a birthday, graduation or any other sort of monumental occasion, my friends like to book Versailles and I like attending. 1) Venue: place has a huge dance floor and really cool club lights. Everyone dresses up here- and look even nicer than people who dress up to go downtown. I tend to think that European people dress really nice in general. 2) Live music. There are a few singers who know all the classics and European (mainly Russian) pop/traditional songs. They really put on a show and everyone dances. You can reserve certain songs by tipping them, extra. 3) Food. The food is amazing. There are actually several courses from appetizers to dessert. The have stacked salad, classic European dishes like oliviyeh (Ukrainian salad) to blintzes and kiolbassa. They also have crepes with caviar, the best mashed potatoes, and different seafood and meat options. 4) DRINKS!!! Russian parties have the best alcohol- vodka, champagne, cocktails- they know how to party. Always a good time. Note: Bathrooms are smaller and they have a coat check.

Any occasion- Versailles is the best place to celebrate it. You will have a delicious food, beautiful interior, and lots of fun. They have great musicians. You can order any of your favorite songs. The only thing is, there are 3 guys that come by the midnight, and they search for victims, with whom they can fight. So, if you don't have skills, you might want to stick to your company.

If you're a Russki and enjoy decent Russki food, loud Russki music, and bad Russki dancing -- this is the place for you. An Amerikanski would at best be amused, and at worst bored to tears. I've been to two birthdays here -- a 50th and an 80th -- just to give you an idea of the typical crowd. There are of course younger folks dragged in by their families, and they all wander around trying to find something to do. At least I'm old enough to get trashed on the ample booze and get some jollies that way. But maybe that's just my family -- your family may be more fun. The entertainment, at least as I've seen it, consists either of Russian music videos projected on a wall or a live male/female duet singing to pre-recorded music with a decent light show. The Russian songs that they sang were decent...but when they tried singing in English, French, or Spanish...all I could think of was Clerks. BERZERKUH! The food's decent...not grandma-homemade quality, but good enough. The only reason that I docked them a star was that they put *ketchup* on the Chicken Kiev. Very authentic. In short -- decent place to have a party if you're old and Russian. Probably not a good bet otherwise.

I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. Yes, the crowd is mostly older, but it didn't stop me and my 20 something year old friends from having fun! We had a blast, actually! The servers are very attentive, the music is typical Russian restaurant music, the food was great, from what I can remember... It deserves 5 stars!

If you're Russian or want to experience a true Russian cultural experience, then this is the place for you! I'm Russian and this is one of the few restaurants acceptable by the Russian Community. It's a place to see and be seen so if you've got something fancy to put on, PUT IT ON!!! And don't be shy because you will be judged either way. The place has a swanky, modern, yet still glamorous appeal. The place is a few years old so it's got that new feel to it which I really like. There's a gorgeous foyer with mirrors to check yourself out, and the banquet hall isn't as big as its partner restaurant Petergof which is located in Northbrook, but Versailles has a trendy feel to it. I had my 25th birthday party here (because that is considered a big number in the Russian culture) and had about 50 people. The packages are pricey and I got the $75.00 package plus tax and tip coming to about $100 per person. You may think that's a crazy amount, but you get your moneys worth. From salads, to pelmeni (Russian dumplings) to cured meats, fish, lamb chops, I mean I think I had it all. Personally love the tounge here prepared in a bread bowl, the pan fried potatoes with mushrooms, the calamari, the seaweed salad with eel and cucumber and those are just the appetizers. My american friends just could not keep up with the food, but hey at least they kept up with the booze. It's byob btw, which is nice since you can bring as much Vodka as your party can handle. I brought the Patron, clearly. The desserts that they bring out are fantastic including Napoleon (which is the best Russian cake) and a fruit platter. Also coffee with vanilla ice cream to finish off the meal, you will leave stuffed with plenty of leftovers to invite your friends for next day brunch/lunch. Now onto the main part of this whole experience-the Music! It's loud, super loud, you can request your favorite songs ($20 a piece) Yes, the whole entertainment factor can add up, but that's a great way to do a shout out for a friend or family member. The band is good, I think three people here, not as good as Petergof's music, but still very good. You may need a change of flip flops when you can't rock it out in your 5 inch Christian Louboutin's anymore. Overall, an awesome way to spend a Saturday night special occasion. Awesome food, great music, your best friends and lots of booze, what can be better?! Definitely a nice gem in the BG hood.

I have been here for 2 events now (wedding and birthday) both times were fantastic! Food is amazing, truley good European cuisine. The building is nice and modern. Music was great if you're Russian of course. Service was great and friendly. I would recommend to anyone for a larger gathering

The music is VERY bad, and VERY loud. That seems appropriate, since the dancing is also VERY bad. If you're not a Russian bring earplugs and avoid looking at the dancers (Russians dance like bears). The food was pretty decent the last time I was there. Not stunning mind you, but pretty decent. Unfortunately my ears still hurt now so the dining experience was offset by the physical pain and permanent hearing loss. Definitely go once if you're curious about Russian cuisine and the emigre culture. Go twice if you're a masochist.

"This is good chicken" I said chewing the strip of meat placed artfully over some lettuce with a hint of sauce swiveled over it. "Keep eating" my boyfriend at the time told me. And then he broke the news. "It's eel." Time stopped. My eyes turned to saucers, I had never had eel before and by golly, it was pretty good. So was the cheesy veal tongue I got tricked into eating and the salmon roe blanketed in pancakes that I willingly tried. All firsts for me. I was here for a wedding. The actual ceremony TOOK PLACE at the restaurant. They had rented the entire place out (It was JUST big enough to be perfect.) and there was a big aisle, giant vases of beautiful flowers, a lacy canopy and rose petals. The restaurant itself is fancy looking so when you added all of the other decor, it was like a page out of a fairy tale. After the ceremony the staff shuffled the crowd into the main lobby for cocktail hour. Every drink that we favored showed up in bottle form at our tables when we returned into a very perfectly placed set of tables that too were decorated with grace. We ate, we drank, we had SO MANY COURSES of food it was outrageous. I have never had an experience like that, and the food just kept coming. The entertainment was adorable. These really upbeat Russians (I believe), the MC had some funny things to say and the music was a live band. There was dancing, LOTS of dancing, I mean there's really no way to describe what a wild party it was. But let me tell you, if I was looking for a small-er wedding that was very intimate, I'd consider doing what they did. It was such a wonderful experience for everyone involved, you could just tell on everyone's faces. Probably very very expensive is my guess, I was lucky as hell to have been a guest.

Its sister restaurant in Northbrook is much better, the management there does everything to satisfy the customers. This place, in contrast, is managed by some strange dude. Be careful when paying cash, count the money in front of them as they take the money, and come back saying it was short. They also include the gratuity in the bill but they'll ask for additional tip. The waiters are nice young kids who don't have much of waiting experience, so what they put on the bill is probably more than enough. The music is great and food is good. But given that you'd almost always be hustled into paying more, I would not recommend this place for any non-oligarchs, non-Russians or people who don't want to engage into arguments with the heavy set manager.

I've been here twice only because my girlfriends Russian and her family has parties here. Not recommended for Americans, and less you like tacky Russians singing and dancing then this is your place. I like to try lots of different foods, but theirs is just below par. my Russian girlfriend thinks the food is great there, so take what you will. I don't really care for Russian food at any restaurant so don't listen to me about the food here. Mid-meal the lights go down the fog machine comes on and the disco lights blare, it's quite an experience.

Food is ok, service is horrible, management is ignorant. Been there on a few occasions, none were pleasant. Never again I would visit this place. Horrible absolutely horrible.

My review is for the food and service here, as I used them to cater an event. I *did* go to the restaurant itself for a Sunday brunch, and it can indeed be loud (as others mention), but it's a fun atmosphere for dancing and spending time with family. I imagine that it's a bit more intense at night, which may or may not be your thing. From a catering perspective, this restaurant was a great choice for us. Their menu (food only) was a third of the cost I was quoted from 'American' caterers, with about six times the food. All of our guests - American and Russian alike - raved about the taste and variety, and many asked for recipes. It's not my grandma's cooking, of course, but it is solidly good Russian fare. Our menu included pickled vegetables, cold cuts, wraps, many salads, crepes, potatoes, dumplings, chicken, fish, kabobs, tea/coffee and delicious dessert. For our 100 guests, food quality and value were great! The service was also noteworthy. Servers set up and cleared the many, many courses efficiently, and they checked in regularly on anything else we could need. I had some concerns about catering, since they normally serve at their venue only, but they had it down, from fancy dishes and silverware to packaging up leftover food for us to take home. I had a few hiccups in communication with the team there, but it was largely driven by me planning the event myself from out-of-state (and time zone). I imagine that this wouldn't be an issue for locals. They asked the right questions and delivered what they said they would, so our event went off smoothly. Overall: 5 stars for food, 5 stars for service, 5 stars for flexibility, 5 stars for value and 4 stars for communication.

Came during a relative bday party. Kinda hidden so hard to tell what exactly this place is really like. A bit small but since we were all close knit family, we made it work. Music was ehhh, I could have done without or at least lower volume. Food was decent, didn't bring back the back home Russian food but nice try.
